At PAX I got to check out a new controller accessory crafted by N-Control. This new gadget may be the craziest controller-related device in video games today.
It is called The Avenger and at first glance you might not even be able to tell how it works. It was designed to provide the player with access to nearly every button and trigger on the Xbox 360 controller without ever lifting a thumb from a joystick.
This adapter allows players to have superior control with games that require split second reflexes. Flexible levers connect to a panel of switches that rest above the X, Y and B buttons. The levers can be positioned in many places where you can simply flex your hand or index fingers resting on the triggers to activate a button, eliminating the travel time between buttons. These levers have degrees of pressure that are adjustable.
The triggers themselves are enhanced with blade overlays that are extra long to offer a higher degree of analog pressure precision. You can also set up a band system on the backside that turns your triggers into hair triggers, where the slightest twitch will activate the trigger.
If players can overcome the learning curve, The Avenger will definitely provide an edge in gaming. There is a Playstation 3 version coming out within the next 2 months according to N-Control and the Xbox 360 version comes out April 5th.
