This was the first of my rather "forerunner-inspired" maps on FC2. Also probably the first map I could look back and say "Yes, that doesn't totally suck in retrospect."
I rarely plan out my maps. I don't think this is a good thing but it seems to work pretty well for me. I've heard of people drawing maps out as blueprints and even modeling them in other programs before building. I don't think I could do that, I usually map slowly if I'm not totally hooked on the idea but once I really get rolling I can knock out a map in a very short time. With this one I knew I wanted a cliff-side map with unique construction that was worked into the terrain. I began work and ended up with a bridge and two empty spaces. I just filled in the spaces with bases that fit the area and published it. lol The end result was something that I don't think I've been able to top even yet. Simple and an incredible bottleneck, yet complex and easy to entirely miss the other team. The bridge lower section has three paths that are only divided by elevation and about 5 meters. One if the rocks against the cliff wall, the middle is the bridge itself that's lower than the other two but has horizontal cover to help you get from one end of the map to the other. The third is the set of pipes that runs along the outside of the bridge, these have little cover from any angle but give you an easy shot into the other two paths as well as the ability to jump down to the middle path. The pipes also allow access to the concrete struts that run up to the top of the bridge and the narrow pathway up there. Despite being somewhat randomly thrown together the map ended up very well in my opinion. It plays pretty well with a full game even though it's rather small. Best for 4 v 4 even though that doesn't always happen on FC2.
